Kisuko Nkenda is more than a project title—it is a living metaphor that carries ancestral meanings and transforms them into contemporary practice. The expression itself holds a profound resonance: Kisuko, a Bantu word for “island,” evokes fragments of land amidst rivers and seas, a space of separation but also of shelter. Nkenda, meaning “self-growth” or “a path inward,” signals the journey of return, reconnection, and inner discovery. Together, Kisuko Nkenda becomes a concept of paradox and potential, naming the tension between isolation and belonging, rupture and continuity, exile and rootedness.
