Ateliê Mukambu is a vital experiment in Black-Indigenous creation. Located in the Arraial dos Crioulos community in Araçuaí, the studio conducts training initiatives in art, education, human rights, and agroecology, and was awarded the CAREC Prize (Prince Claus Fund) in 2023. Rooted in over 15 years of research by Maya Quilolo, the project bridges traditional Black and Indigenous territories with global movements. Ateliê Mukambu has represented Black and Indigenous perspectives in major international forums, including the Tepoztlán Institute, BRASA, AWID, CSW, and other high-level conferences. Embracing collective artistic practices with Black Indigenous youth, it offers a rare space for creative empowerment in the Global South.
