ateliE MUkambu
A Black Indigenous pulse of knowing, making, and resisting
Who are we?
atelie mukambu blcack-indigenous organisation aims to organise cognitive, spiritual, and practical aspects of the communal struggles in the Jequitinhonha Valley. The projects understand art as community grousing and building procedures, navigating the contemporary art scene, and Safeguarding traditional knowledge.
Embracing art as embodied knowledge and a practice of territorial recognition, Ateliê Mukambu sows its presence in the formation of children and youth, nurturing in them the awareness that the territory has, itself, a powerful source of artistic expression.
Ateliê Mukambu collaborates with traditional farmers, preserving ancestral agroecological knowledge, fostering cultural resilience, and promoting sustainable livelihoods through agriculture as a teacher of ecology, interdependence, temporal cycles, and ancestral wisdom.
Ateliê Mukambu empowers children to express their visions and confront present contradictions through art, breaking silences—especially of women and youth—amid environmental conflicts affecting traditional peoples in the Jequitinhonha Valley.

Ateliê Mukambu practices a new form of globalization rooted in quilombola and Indigenous communities, working to expand their existential, physical, and political territories. Through education in human rights, safety, and international strategy, it empowers underrepresented groups to engage in political processes at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
